PRE-REGISTRATION
You can pre-register to vote in Texas if you are at least 17 years and 10 months and will be 18 by Election Day.
REGISTER TO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY
Texas does NOT offer same-day registration. Ensure your voter registration is submitted before the deadline.
VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINES
The deadline to register to vote is:
MAIL – postmarked at least 30 days before the election
IN PERSON – at least 30 days before Election Day

You have a right to register to vote at the address you consider the place where you live, whether that is your family’s home or the place where you attend school.
You may only be registered and vote in one location.

VOTE EARLY IN-PERSON
WHEN CAN I VOTE EARLY?
You can vote early in Texas beginning generally beginning 17 days before Election Day (if that’s a weekend, early voting starts on Monday), and for some special elections and elections held in May, beginning 12 days before Election Day.
The last day to vote early is 4 days before Election Day.
WHO CAN VOTE EARLY?
No reason is required to vote early in Texas.
WHERE CAN I GO TO VOTE EARLY?

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO VOTE EARLY?
ID is required to vote in Texas. Valid forms of ID included:
- Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety
- Texas Election Identification Card
- Texas Personal Identification Card
- Texas Handgun License
- U.S. Military Identification Card or U.S. Citizenship Certificate containing your photograph
- U.S. Passport
If you do not possess and cannot obtain one of these forms of photo ID, you can fill out a Reasonable Impediment Declaration (RID) at the polls. You will need to present an alternative form of ID, such as a utility bill, bank statement, government check or a voter registration certificate.
If you do not have one of the documents in the list above, you may obtain a free Texas ID.
CAN I REGISTER TO VOTE DURING EARLY VOTING?
Texas does not offer same-day voter registration during early voting. You need to submit your voter registration before the deadline.
MAIL-IN / ABSENTEE VOTING
Voting by mail in Texas has been available for elderly voters and voters with physical disabilities for decades.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO REQUEST A BALLOT?
Send your application for a ballot by mail as early as January 1 of the year of the election that you wish to vote in. This will give you plenty of time to receive your ballot, mark it and mail it back to the Early Voting Clerk.
